Woodland Management

The Everlands Estate continues to work with the Forestry Commission to create revised Woodland Management plans to use the wood from the forests in a sustainable manner which will encourage the flora and fauna within the woods and natural regeneration.

A long term view is taken on mature hardwoods and selective thinning is carried out where necessary. Removal of soft woods from ancient woodland goes towards refencing the Estate and annual coppicing of chesnut on a 20/25 year rotation greatly enhances biodiversity whilst producing healthy coppice stools.

With over 400 acres of woodland including semi ancient mature stands of oak, beech, ash and hazel, purpose managed chesnut plantations, arable shelter belts and alder carrs, Everland’s woodland is well distributed and diverse.
